Our vicar,
the Reverend Richard Awre has just completed twenty five years service in
the priesthood, having been ordained at Blackburn Cathedral in June
1982. Richard first spent his time as a curate at St John's,
Blackpool and from 1984 at All Saints, Clayton-le-Moors. In 1989
Richard became vicar at St Lawrence with St Paul, Longridge until moving
to Kenilworth in 1999. Richard may have wanted this occasion to
pass quietly without a fuss, but others thought it deserved to be marked
in an appropriate way! As we entered Church we were able to view a
fantastic photo montage of events that had taken place during those 25
years in the Parishes that have been privileged to have Richard as their
Priest. There was his ordination, weddings he conducted, a static
bike ride and Richard playing a guitar to name but a few, not to mention
the variety of hair cuts! |

The service
proceeded as normal until the notices. At this point Anne Werrell
made a well put together speech, having gathered stories and words of
congratulations from those who have worked with Richard during the past
25 years. Bryan Grice then presented Richard with a beautiful new
stole to mark this occasion and Janet Cherry presented Allison with a
flower arrangement. Richard, a little speechless and taken aback,
thanked everyone for being themselves and in particular Allison, Daniel
and Olivia for their support. We were then able to have a slice of
the expertly decorated celebration cake with our coffee and time to
browse through the photos again. |
