Leavenses

	The Leavenses congregation would like to invite you to join us in our informal worship and fellowship at St Barnabas Church at 11am on Tuesday mornings. What is Leavenses?
	Leavenses begins with a short informal service lasting approximately 15 minutes at St Barnabas Church. We, at St. Barnabas Church are fortunate to have people who are always willing to help and give talks on a wide range of subjects at these services. Refreshments follow our short service usually tea, coffee, cake and biscuits. Whilst enjoying a cuppa, we discuss many issues including quite serious subjects, but be assured, there is plenty of laughter too! Our Tuesday morning service has an important place in the life of St. Barnabas Church and the local community. Leavenses has been established for nearly 15 years and the atmosphere is one of friendliness and informality and so encourages those who may not be comfortable in a more structured service. On the first Tuesday in the month some of us stay behind to eat a packed lunch and spend a pleasant time in fellowship. On some occasions we visit the local Cherry Tree Café; the bacon sandwiches are to be recommended!

	The History of Leavenses
	The first service of 'Leavenses' took place at St Barnabas Church on a Tuesday Morning in April 1997. The idea of Margaret Pointer and Jean Reger, both Readers in St Nicholas Parish.
	So why is it called Leavenses?
	The obvious answer is because it happens at 11am, but the other reason is that the foundation is rooted in the scriptures. In the King James version - Luke Chapter 13 v20-21 the scripture says; "And again He said whereunto shall I liken the Kingdom of God? It is like Leaven, which a woman took and hid in three measures of meal, till the whole was leavened". So please come and spend a convivial morning with us and see for yourself....
