Every Holy Week and Easter we have a number of special services to celebrate the most significant time in the Christian Calendar. Here are details of all our services and activities which took place during Holy Week and Easter 2012.

Easter Scenes in Kenilworth

 

Palm Sunday

08.00am Holy Communion St. Nicholas

A passiontide devotion for congregation and choir. Includes hymns, readings and anthems

Monday in Holy Week

07.45am Morning Prayer St. Nicholas
07.30pm The Stations of the Cross - we move around the church and at each stopping point reflect on a picture depicting an incident during Jesus’ journey from Pilate’s house to his crucifixion at Calvary. We then pray and sing before moving on.
(lasting approx 30 minutes)

Wednesday in Holy Week

07.30pm Service of Light and Shadows - this starts in full candlelight and ends in darkness as the candles are doused a group at a time. In between we hear the words of a Psalm and the Passion story from John's gospel, ending with the Crucifixion of Jesus.

A Passover Supper This is a simple meal of a little cold lamb, salad and herbs which Jesus shared with his disciples at their Last Supper. It ends with

The Watch Remembering Jesus’ instructions to his disciples to watch and pray with him, this is our opportunity to do just that, perhaps for 20 minutes.

10.45am Churches Together Service - for all ages in Talisman Square, lasting 25 minutes followed by a procession to Abbey Hill for the planting of the Cross on the edge of Abbey Fields Talisman Square &

Holy Saturday

08.00pm The Lighting of the Easter Fire and the Renewal of Baptism Vows
Our Easter preparation comes to an end with the congregation gathered outside the church in the darkness for the lighting of the Easter Candle from a newly kindled fire. We then process the candle into a darkened church. From its flame we all light candles and then renew our baptism vows and join in prayers of preparation for Easter.

09.15am Easter Egg Hunt around the churchyard, refreshments available St. Nicholas
10.00am Family Communion a sung service for all ages lasting an hour and ending with Easter Egg Rolling down the slopes of Abbey Fields by the church—the hardest ones roll best so maybe bring a hard boiled egg! St. Nicholas
10.15am Family Communion St. Barnabas
06.30pm Evensong a reflective end to the greatest day in the Christian calendar St. Nicholas
